The Northwest Ranch Cowboy Association (NRCA) Finals Rodeo includes fierce rodeo competition, a wide array of shopping options at the trade show, concessions by Home Fire Foods, a beer wagon, and a live band on both Friday and Saturday nights.

The Finals are a "Sudden Death" match-up with the top 12 qualifiers from the 11 events going head to head in 3 go-rounds to determine the champion. Each individual comes into the finals with points (12 points for the leading money winner down to 1 point for the least) and gathers more points by placing in the go-rounds and in the average. The person with the most points at the end of the finals is deemed the finals Champion of that event and wins the trophy saddle for the year. The sudden death concept opens the door for a dark horse to overcome the leaders and take away the saddle title. The top money winner for the year is named the Year-end Champion and receives the championship belt buckle.

The Northwest Ranch Cowboy Association (NRCA) began in Campbell County in 1947. At that time, Dick Mader of Gillette led a group of local men and women vested in creating an association to promote rodeo as a sport; specifically for the local ranch cowboy who does not rodeo as a profession. Dick dreamed of establishing an organization dedicated to supporting the hard-working ranching community of Wyoming and those who rodeo for the true love of the sport. As President of the newly formed NRCA, and with a committed team of Board Members and local ranchers behind him, the Association quickly grew as did word of the high-quality rodeo events it has become known to consistently produce. Today, the NRCA boasts a membership network 500 strong and growing with representatives from Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, and North & South Dakota. While the event travelled annually when it began, from 1993 through 2011 the Finals Rodeo became a staple of Gillette. In an effort to continue nurturing the increasing competitor draw for NRCA Rodeos, the Board elected to move their Finals Rodeo again in 2012. For eight years the NRCA Finals Rodeo took place South Dakota and NRCA successfully grew to boast today’s five-state competitor and spectator draw. In 2015, a Wyoming native and local business owner, Mike McInerney, became President of the Northwest Ranch Cowboy Association Board. In 2020, Mike’s goal of seeing the NRCA Finals Rodeo return to Gillette, Wyoming and CAM-PLEX was realized. With the support the NRCA Board, President McInerney completed a three contract with CAM-PLEX ensuring that the Finals Rodeo will take place in Gillette, Wyoming for years to come. Board President Mike McInerney had this to say, “I’m proud to have the NRCA Finals Rodeo back in Wyoming where our Association began and honored to have the opportunity to produce the Finals at the CAM-PLEX where my father worked to put on the event a decade ago. The true spirit of rodeo is alive and well in the hearts of every man and women that make up the NRCA family, and we invite folks from all walks of life to come experience the spirit for themselves”.
