On Monday, July 19, 2021, through Friday, July 23, 2021, CAM-PLEX Multi Event Facility will be hosting Fly Dance Company to create Campbell County’s first weeklong Hip Hop Summer Camp! The camp is geared towards students 8-17 years old. The camp will be a full day which will teach on aspects of the hip hop culture including but not limited to art, dance, and drumming.
Based in Houston, FLY Dance Company offers entertaining, clean-cut, fun concert performances as well as educational shows, workshops, and residencies available for booking locally, nationally, and internationally. FLY offers fun, fast-action, educational shows scripted and designed to deliver entertainment, knowledge, and important social messages to school-aged audiences.
Students will learn the fundamental moves in breakdancing such as top rock, footwork, power moves, freezes, spins, drops, and basic tumbling. They will develop character and style while learning how to express themselves through hip-hop dance. Students learn to set goals and achieve by putting together and performing a choreographed dance show. They will interact with and learn from the touring professionals who conduct this residency. Students will also be learning drumming and will perform the music for the dancers. Other students at the camp will create the costumes and backdrops and will also learn the backstage and lighting techniques needed to make production a successful! At the end of camp, the students will wrap up with a performance for parents, staff, and the community. Fly Dance Company and the Hip Hop Camp will be ran and operated by its core members Jorge Casco, Chris Cortez, and Adam Quiroz.
